Project SEARCH
What is Project Search?
Project SEARCH is a nationally acclaimed program designed to transition students with intellectual and developmental disabilities into employment through internships at local businesses. Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital has participated in Project SEARCH since 2014. The 10 month program provides adults with disabilities the education and experience they need for successful employment.
Project SEARCH interns spend five days per week for ten months at the hospital immersed in coursework and rotating between three different job specialties. Each day, interns receive at least one hour of classroom instruction on vocational, social, and independent living skills. Consistent onsite staff ensure students learn relevant, marketable skills in a real-life work setting. Project SEARCH is also an opportunity to build confidence and character. Once interns graduate from the program, our staff assist in finding them competitive, integrated, paid employment in the community. Our Project SEARCH staff partner with the Sertoma Center to provide employment support upon graduation.
Who Can Apply?
- 18 years and older
High School Diploma (all diploma types accepted)- Willing to access services from Vocational Rehabilitation Services
- Ability to function in a smoke free environment
- Pass a drug screen and criminal background check
- Willing to comply with host hospital's policies on vaccination
- Willing to complete the entire 10 month, unpaid internship
- Desire to work in the community
