Dolly Children’s Rehabilitation Services Observation and Shadowing Opportunities

Dolly Children’s offers outpatient rehabilitation observation opportunities to students age 18 and older who are enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program and are interested in careers in:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech-Language Pathology

Our rehab observation program is intended to provide students with meaningful exposure to clinical practice as they explore future careers in healthcare. Through guided observation experiences, we hope students gain insight into patient care, rehabilitation skills, and the day-to-day responsibilities of rehabilitation professionals.

To help ensure the best experience for both students and clinicians, please review the following program guidelines prior to applying:

  • Clinical shadowing is limited to 8 hours per calendar year and are preferably completed in a single day.
  • Observation experiences take place in our outpatient centers. We have multiple locations throughout the Knoxville area and students may be matched with a clinician at any of these sites.
  • Shadowing opportunities are available Monday-Wednesday from 8:00am-5:00pm and Thursday from 9:00am-5:00pm.
  • Applications should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the requested observation date. Students will be required to complete an orientation process and provide proof of required vaccinations before participating in a shadowing experience.
